Mission Statement
The Goals of Salva Nos
Salva Nos is a new charity, so it's just getting going. The
services that can be provided right now will depend on the money raised
right now. However, I have ambitious goals.
Since there is no shelter in this part of Santa Clara County, I
realize we must help people where they are... on the streets.
Homeless Meal Sponsor Program
I'd like to find families in the community that can "make extra" at
least three nights per week or twice with an extra person who does it
once. The meals would be brought to a drop-off point while still
warm (or reheated before you left the house so they are still warm).
Not only would the families need to be found, but I'd have to research
points where the homeless hover, so I can arrange a drop-off point
nearby. I'd want this to be well-lighted and safe with a trash can
to dispose of waste.
If you would like to participate in this program by providing a meal
2-3 nights per week for a homeless person, please
contact me. Meals
should be brought on disposable, non-breakable dishware like Chinet or
something and should have the necessary eating utensils included for the
type of meal it is, with a napkin included. The goal is to provide
them a warm meal with everything they need to eat it and a place to
throw the waste.
Promote Awareness & Acceptance
I'd like to see the homeless be included in the rest of the
community. I'd like to teach people that these folks are human
just like them and that it's okay to be nice to them. Being nice
to a homeless person or stopping to talk with them doesn't reflect
poorly on you or make you less of a decent person. It makes you a
bigger person than you were 20 minutes ago.
Help Those Who Want Help
I'd like to wade into the homeless community to find those that want
help for their situation and provide help for them. I'd like to
help them get medication if that's what they need to reintegrate with
society. I'd like to provide job skills assessment and training,
so that those with skills or the capability for skills can get back on
their feet. I'd like to advocate for them in the work place and
provide job placement assistance, finding businesses in the community
that are willing to take a chance on someone who so desperately needs a
chance. I'd like to provide access to transportation whether it's
volunteers providing transportation for doctor visits, job interviews,
and appointments for local resources.
Community Closet
I'd *love* to provide a community closet, complete with showering
facilities, so that these folks can clean up for appointments and
opportunities. It's hard to get hired or even get anyone to take
you seriously when you look like you're living on the streets.
